Why we think this is right
Recorded 2003-2004 at Ocean Way/Studio 880 with producer Rob Cavallo. The song is built on a dynamic clean-to-distorted arc: the fingerpicked clean intro/verses are Billie Joe Armstrong's 1956 Gibson Les Paul Junior (single P-90, 'Floyd') into a Fender '65 Twin Reverb for glassy headroom, and the anthemic choruses/outro come from the same Junior driving his cranked Marshall Super Lead 100 'Plexi' (1959SLP) through a Marshall 1960BX 4x12, close-miked and doubled Cavallo/Lange-style. Sources agree on the Junior + Twin (clean) and the Marshall Plexi stack (dirty); the heavy layer may have been doubled with his 'Blue' Fernandes (Bill Lawrence L-500XL) used elsewhere on the album, but the Junior-into-Plexi pairing is the featured electric chain.
